I got to see John Mayer on November 23rd in Richmond. With the person John Mayer is, I didn't really know what kind of show to expect. His off the wall sense of humor definately played a major part in keeping the interest of most of the dads who were forced to bring their daughters because they were too young to go alone. The Thorns (opening act) I have to admit were better than any other opening act i've seen. But at that point, I honestly didn't care if the opening act was U2, I along with the rest of the Coliseum was just waiting for John. At about 8:30 he finally casually strolled out in loose jeans and a short sleeve green shirt with a long sleeve white one underneath. During the moments of John walking up the stairs and over to the mic, you could not even hear yourself think. He opened with "Clarity" which definately got everyone moving. Then "Bigger Than My Body" and all night just continued with song after song after song, of course taking the occasional break to talk about random thoughts he was having. First he began to talk about the Parties that people have (Christmas, New Years) He talked about how he wanted to have a Daylight Savings Time Party, he said "I want everyone to know that for Daylight Savings, there's gonna be a party at Mayer's, just so we can count to 2 twice" He also decided to comment on the signs people had brought. He told one fan that he loved them and appreciated the time they put into making the sign, by measuring everything out carefully etc but next time they should run a spell check on the word "pregnancy". Another sign said "Do me John" which of course everyone went crazy about. The last sign said "John, Ohio loves you" and the concert being in Richmond VA he said "Ohio loves me, thanks for F@%$ing confusing me" Needless to say, a John Mayer concert is an experience all its own. If you ever get the chance to, GO! I have an all new liking for his music now because seeing him live makes you realize the time, effort and wonderful talent it takes to make something so great. Here's the one thing I will never forget from that concert (and once you've experienced it, you'll understand...)
