Toronto, ON Canada
Written by Brittney.
I went to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Ontario expecting a good show by
the one and only John Mayer. What I got was a powerful and moving
performance that brought this xangan to tears (as funny as that sounds it
happens)
The musician started out with the first track on his latest album (Heavier
Things) "Clarity". Some of the group could sing along and the sound was
fantastic. As he moved through the setlist, he started the opening bars of
"Why Georgia" and the crowd when wild. Drowning out John, it seemed the
entire body of people knew the words. Men and children that were seated
behind, in front and even beside me in my row 16 seat were singing along.
John just grinned and shook his head before joining in himself.
Later on in the show, he busted out the ballad and rocked the fucking house
with "Come Back to Bed" one of the two slower songs on HT. It was as if the
man had been taken hostage by the spirit of Clapton or Hendrix. The sheer
skill that man posessed seemed to be to old for his age of 26. On the big
screens set up on either side of the stage, the cameras caught the contorted
faces Mayer made. The music had taken him and I feared he may be suffering a
seizure.
Fortunately, John arrived back in the real world to finish his set and
perform a fabulous encore of "Comfortable" from his indie release "Inside
Wants Out" and "St Patricks Day" from his Grammy Award winning album "Room
for Squares".
All in all, it was a FABULOUS show and I look forward to collecting many
more dog tags at shows to come.
