This man definitely knows how to put on a show, and I'm not talking about those cheesy Britney-type shows with the flashy lights, tight leather pants and background dancers. John knows how to get a crowd involved better than any musician I've ever seen. Making eye contact with as many people as possible, he pulls everyone in and just makes us all have the time of our lives. If you were to go into a Mayer show feeling like complete shit, you'd walk out with the biggest smile on your face - feeling absolutely amazing. A John Mayer concert is the perfect remedy for any painful fight w/ a friend, boyfriend, or even the common cold. ;o)
It's always an awesome thing when you get to see a completely real performance put on. One where not everything is planned and the band just goes where the music takes them. In the middle of every single song, John seemed to drift off into his own world and play something fresh and new on his guitar until someone would scream and snap him back into reality to finish the song. A very cool thing to see. Almost makes you feel as though you're alone in a tiny room with him while he's writing a new song.

For the encore, John returned to the stage alone with his acoustic guitar to sing "Daughters." In the middle of the song, one of his strings broke - but he didn't stop singing. He calmly stood there and continued the sing until stagecrew replaced his guitar. After that, the rest of the band joined John on the stage once again for the last song. They finished the concert beautifully with a slightly longer version of "Back to You."
What can I say about Wisechild and Counting Crows performances? They were both so amazing. Wisechild has a really great sound and a unique type of music. (For anyone who hasn't heard anything by them, I highly suggest you buy their CD or at least download their songs, "On The Floor" and "Break Away" which was co-written by John. I promise you won't be disappointed!) Imagine, an unknown opening act leaving the audience screaming for more. After they performed, we went to get a CD signed by them. Unfortunately, three of the four members had gone back to their VIP tent but Casey Driessen(electric fiddle) was there. He signed my friends CD and took a picture with her. A very nice guy. So not only are they incredibly talented musicians, they're nice, too! That's always a plus.
As for the Crows - anybody who went into that show thinking they wouldn't enjoy their performance, (and I know there were quite a few people thinking that, myself being one,) was definitely in awe after their set was over. The lead singer (as well as the rest of the band) is so animated during each song. It was really a cool thing to watch.
All in all, this concert was the best I've seen in my life. I really hope that each of you will get to see at least one John Mayer show this year. And for those of you who went to a concert last summer and still haven't decided if you should go to another one - YES YOU SHOULD! Last summer rocked, but this is ten times better. And I never thought I'd ever say another concert was better than the one I went to last July - so you know this one has to be great!
"John Mayer has made intelligent music popular again. THANK YOU JOHN!" - My mother. ;o)
