"I thought "Heavier Things" was just that -deeper, and John wasn't holding us at arms length like with "Room for Squares". I love every song on this album, but have my favorites: the bittersweet "Clarity", retro "Only Heart" and the "WTF happened to us?" in "Split Screen Sadness". I also love Johns tendancy to couple a depressing song with "happy" music (i.e. Clarity, Back to You from his other albums). This is now my favorite CD."

"'HeavierThings' is an amazing album!! It shows how much John has grown up since 'Inside wants out' and 'Room for Squares'. He is a wonderful songwriter/singer, and right now I think he is at the top of the chain! I LoVe U sO mUcH jOhN!!!....COME BACK to MY bed ;)"
- Leslie |
"This album is sooo good. If you think that you liked John Mayer before you will love him now. It is such a good CD,"come back to bed","split screen sadness"and "new deep" are just some of the good songs i think that this CD is soo good. I love John so much!! If you don't have the CD go out and get it you won't be sorry!! XoXoXo~John~<3"

"Not as (guitar) accoustic as Room For Squares, but the lyrics are honest and enlightening. When a guy writes a song to all of the fathers in the world and tells them they are the 'god and the weight' of their daughter's world... You just know he knows the score. Full of substance and a big step up. Anyone can hear, feel and see who he is with every track on the album. The electric guitar solos encompass soul, jazz, blues, rock and pop. Only John can naturally roll all of this into one. Well done John. You've outdone yourself - and I hesitate to think you've even reached your full potential as a true musician."

"Wow!! I was admittedly skeptical about the new CD; now I think it's my favorite. "Come Back to Bed" is amazing. There is not a song I don't love ( I have to admit, I'm not a big "Wonderland" fan and was worried there would be more of that type on "Heqavier Things.) This one is much deeper and heartfelt; JM can sing to me anytime!"
- Holly |
"I think this album is the best! It is definately my favorite CD now!! I loved Room for Squares, but it was definately time for a new CD from John. I LOVE JOHN MAYER!"
- Cheryl |
"i was not impressed with Heavier Things. It's to much pop for me. I LOVE John's more bluesy style in Room For Squares, Any Given Thursday, and Inside Wants Out. However, I do really enjoy "Daughters" and "Come Back To Bed"...definitely more of John's true style!"

"I love Heavier Things. I listen to it over and over again every single day. I listened to it on The Leak and learned all the words to the cd before it came out on the 9th. It is a great cd. Most people are gonna say it's not as good as Squares, but you have to think how long Squares has been out and nothing compares to it. I love Squares but Heavier Thing just has a place of its own in my heart. I love you John! :-)"

""Heavier Things" have a little different sound than "Room For Squares", but I bet you won't get bored listening it..!!! My favourite are "New Deep", "Clarity", "Split Screen Sadness", and of course "Bigger Than My Body". But don't worry cause ALL of the songs are DAMN AWESOME!!! Keep going John!!!

""Heavier Things," i'll admit, i was at first a little dissapointed with. i listened to it over and over on THE LEAK, but once i got the album on Tuesday, I couldnt stop listening to it. "Come Back To Bed," and "New Deep" are my favorite songs on the album but they are all exceptionally John, and rock hard! It is for sure a different sound than Room For Squares, but what can you expect? It shows another side of John... the same quality lyrics... the same soothing voice, IT'S GREAT! Go buy it ASAP! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE FALL TOUR! rock on :D"

"I picked it up Tuesday morning and this album is awesome. This album, although not as musically complex as RFS, is more emotional than his previous work. I love it. I like to see that John can reach so many levels as a musician and still be himself. These days you see artist changing their identity with every album they come out with and John doesn't do that. He's still that normal guy writes music to satisfy himself and get his emotions out. I really admire that. If you haven't picked up the cd, you really should. (and don't burn it, this man deserves our money for the work he's done)"

"I'm completely in love with "Heavier Things." It's very different from "Room for Squares" but it's equally amazing (if not better). John Mayer just proved again what an incredible talent he has and I love his new sound. I'm going to his concert in New York on Nov. 24 and I can't wait!"
- Leslie |
"I think that this album is totally great, come back to bed and only heart are to of my favorite songs. its a lot different from "Room for Squares",but i think that it is really good"
- Leslie |
"I went out and bought "Heaver Things" on Tuesday. It's amazing; there are some songs that have jazz-like instruments (like a saxophone, I think, an electric piano, etc.) and then there are slow acoustic songs like "Wheel." His sound has changed over the years, and has a little less pop now and a little more eclectic stuff, but the lyrics are still sweet and his voice still is, too. My favorite song would be "Daughters" or "Wheel," and the album sleeve is hilarious. Go buy it and amuse yourself with the wheel o' songs inside!"
- Rachel |
"Awesome!! Amazing!! Impressive!! Just 3 of the many words that do justice for John's new album. The songs have great meaning and there's something everyone can relate to. Top songs on this album are "New Deep" and "Come Back To Bed." After seeing John in concert this summer and now listening to his amazing album, I tell all of you to go buy the album asap and see a show if it's still possible because you are doing yourself a huge injustice if you don't!!"

"Heavier Things is a great title for this album. It has a unique new sound, that is probably something most people wouldn't expect from John. No need to worry, because even though John is going for a new sound, that doesn't mean that his work isn't just as phenominal as it was before. Every song on Heavier Things sounds quite different, but they are all just as catchy. There is more variation on this album as opposed to Room For Squares. A numerous amount of instruments and sounds were combined in the songs making each one of them have their own personality or feeling. If you take a look at some of the lyrics for any one of the songs that are on Heavier Things, you can tell that a lot of feeling as well as emotion were put into them. These feelings or emotions are something that everyone can relate to. John had his work cut out for him on this album. We all know that following up Room For Squares was not an easy task. John has done a fantastic job on Heavier Things. So !
if you loved Room For Squares, or any of John's songs for that matter, you will surely not want to miss out on Heavier Things!"

"I'm pretty disappointed with John right now...I went to my first JM concert this summer expecting it to be full of guitar solos, and instead it sounded like I was listening to his studio album with lower sound quality. Despite this, I really enjoyed hearing "Bigger Than My Body" at the concert so I was really exited about the new album. I went to go pick it up yesterday and was immediately shocked at the sound. He seems to have pulled a Jewel by sacrificing his talent at guitar for simple riffs and girly quasi-techno songs which sound a lot alike. Don't get me wrong, I still love John but I expected more than this. The best thing about "Heavier Things" is definitely the lyrics which seem much more mature and heartfelt than those on 'Room For Squares'."

"Just bought Heavier things today! I just wanted to say that John is an amazing songwriter and the guitar playing aint bad either ;) Go get the CD asap its great!"

"Well i have the album in my hand...... upon first hearing it on mtv.com i was sadly unimpressed.... but! after getting it home and listning to it more than once i have come to realize that i love the album.... it is a must have... come back to bed is SO good...... get it!"

"Heavier Things" is definitely an AWESOME album!!! I've always loved John Mayer. Some of his songs make me laugh, some of them make me cry. But they are all awesome. "Heavier Things" keeps up the trend of him not having a single bad song. The music is great, and the words are just AWESOME; You can really relate to them (as you can with many of his other songs, as well). "New Deep" is my favorite, and judging by the poll on this site, others would agree with me. The words are great, and the tune is catchy. Ahhh, the whole album is just AWESOME!! You had better all have it by now! If not, go get it NOW!!!!!!!!"

"On Sept. 9, 2003, the man best known for telling women “Your Body Is a Wonderland” on the Grammy-winning hit of the same name, or declaring, “I want to run through the halls of my high school” on the jazzy hook of first single “No Such Thing,” releases his follow-up, Heavier Things… and he’s all grown up..." "John Mayer's previous album, the breakout set "Room for Squares," peaked at No. 8 on The Billboard 200 nearly two years after its release. Now armed with a Grammy Award, Mayer delivers a new album, "Heavier Things," which firmly establishes him as a legitimate—albeit still puppy-eyed—singer/songwriter..." Read on..
